Ahondarse
2015. Site specific video installation
Produced site-specific video art piece for exhibition.
Created at the NES Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland. Exhibited at Proof Gallery in Boston, MA.
Deeply-personal confessions and reenactments of traumatic events are projected onto the artist’s face, recorded, and re-projected twenty times. The resulting distortion creates an otherworldly yet familiar form, while the recursive nature of the piece ties into the theme of self-reflection. Simultaneously abstract and concrete, the viewer’s perception is meant to shift between recognizable and alien landscapes to create feelings of isolation, as if lost in space with only one’s thoughts.
The work is site-specific: the sound is tuned to resonate with the geometry of an old fish packing plant in Skagaströnd, Iceland, dramatically changing in timbre as viewers walk through the space and explore the soundscape.
